So You Want to Go to The Natural Bridge Va

The Natural Bridge has been designated a Virginia Historic Landmark and a National Historic Landmark in Rockbridge County, Virginia. Offering amazing trail views, historic hotel stays, and access to Natural Bridge Caverns, I found this to be an impressive road trip in the Blue Ridge Mountains & Shenandoah Valley.

Most things to do in Natural Bridge are based on their proximity to the Historic Hotel. With me having decided on a day trip- my time was predominantly spent in the state park- a stones throw away. You’ll find access to the park through the visitors center. Once you travel some SERIOUS stairs, you’ll be greeted by stunning views. There is a guided trail leading to a waterfall about half a mile past the bridge itself.

After I had my fill of gorgeous views, I travelled back through the visitors center to dine at the Red Fox Tavern. This tavern is attached to the Historic Hotel offering good food, even better drinks, and a wonderful way to conclude your trip. While there was much more to be done in the town of Natural Bridge, I left feeling completely satisfied with a days worth of new experiences, longing for more.

When you consider going!

• Wear comfortable shoes: Quite a bit of walking to do! There is wheelchair accessibility, but it is limited to the bridge itself.

• Bring Plenty to Hydrate: Once you pass through the visitors center and head towards the trail, they do have a small shop that offers snacks, the selection is understandably limited based on its location.

• Plan ahead: There is so much to do within 10-20 miles from the State Park. This includes the Virginia Safari Park, The Caverns at Natural Bridge, Natural Bridge Zoo, Dinosaur Kingdom II (wow, I know right), Twin River Outfitters and much more. If you intend on being in town several days-that’s where the Historic Hotel will come in handy, however if you’re just looking for a day trip there is so much to choose from!
